Adventure Racing is one of the most
exciting races to watch and/ or to participate in. Adventure racing
uses a lot of different disciplines and events into one huge race
between either single individuals or teams.
The teams must use skills such as
orienteering which is a form of finding one’s self using a
map and then navigating through obstacles with the map and compass.
Cross-Country running is involved due the race aspect and a person
should expect to run through some interesting terrain which will
take a person through the wilderness. Mountain biking also occurs
due the fact that the race could be a biathlon or triathlon which
is a race that involves two or three more types of racing. Paddling
is expected due to the fact that a race course may consist of
either fording or going down a river which would mean that a boat
would be necessary. Climbing is another due to the mountains or
hills that a person may or may not be going through. Adventure
Racing is like going through a whole maze of different events to
get to one area. These races usually last a week to ten days as the
individual or team is trying to get to one objective that will take
a person a long time.
These kind of events are very fun because
it is like trying to get somewhere by covering a long distance in
the process. By going through some of the most interesting terrains
the race becomes even more exciting. The lengths of an average
adventure race can last any where from twelve hours for a sprint
adventure race to an expedition adventure race that can or will
last up to eleven days. Everything in the middle is a sprint which
can be a twelve to twenty-four hour race. Multi-day races are
thirty-six to forty-eight hour races that will last some days.
Every place will have a check point where a team will meet to make
sure that they are on track and to ensure that they are safe. This
also lets the event staff know that everyone is in good health and
accounted for.
One of the most interesting adventure
races are the ones on TV where a team or group of individuals must
get somewhere to reach the goal of winning the prize. The teams go
through many countries, trying to get the end place. While these
adventure races are much more metropolitan oriented and the
previously mentioned disciplines are probably not used. For
instance, biking is used but only to get to say the airport faster
than another group. One of the most interesting things is that the
people are always running to one destination to the next trying to
beat the other team. Hence the connection to adventure racing which
is a race for a certain amount of time trying to get to a goal or
finish that comes in the overall form of an adventure.
Adventure racing can be one when ever the
individual has a will to compete and becomes an inspiration to
himself and to those around him. If all this sounds a little too
strenuous then maybe Billiards is more your style, all you need is a
few billiard tips and you will be on your way to
winning.
